Veil photos are some of my absolute favorite images to document during a wedding day! Especially when the veil is long, there are so many fun and creative ways to incorporate it into your images! Today I’m going to share with you some of my favorite tried-and-true wedding veil photo ideas that will elevate your wedding galleries. While long veils typically work best, some of these can still be accomplished with a short veil.
I encourage you to try some of these out at your next wedding or elopement! If you have any other wedding veil photo ideas, I’d love to hear them. Drop them in the comments section below! 🙂
A classic! This technique works best with longer veils and works really well when there’s a slight breeze. Gently grab the end of the veil and hold it in front of the bottom part of your lens to create a soft, curved leading line – aka a veil SWOOP – that flows from your lens to the couple. If there’s a slight breeze, let nature do the work and enhance the curve!!
This technique also works best with a long veil but can also be accomplished with a shorter one if you crop your image in tighter. Have your couple face one another, belly button to belly button, and tell them to get all up in each other’s business. (That’s what I like to tell them, haha.) Then watch the magic unfold.
Probably one of my all-time favorite wedding veil photo ideas! After draping the veil over the couple, get underneath with them. You want to make sure you have parts of the veil falling in front of your lens along the top and sides of your image to create more depth and interest in your image. This technique works with both long and short veils, and always produces stunning imagery! (If you’re working with a shorter veil, a wide angle lens will do the trick!)
You’ll need a helper to accomplish this image unless it’s an extra windy day, in which case the wind can be your helper. 😆 (This also works best with long veils.) Have your helper gently pull the veil out lengthwise, then count down: 3…2…1…toss! Have them toss the veil up into the air and quickly step out of frame. Ta da!
If time allows, I love capturing solo photos of the partner wearing the veil. You can use a lot of the same techniques mentioned above, but you’ll have to adjust your posing and directing a bit. Get creative and experiment! You never know what magic will unfold!
Let me know if you try any of these wedding veil photo ideas at your next wedding! I hope you found this blog post helpful. 🙂
