You’ve booked your couples or engagement photoshoot, yay! Now comes the fun part – preparing all the details! Taking the time to plan ahead will not only ensure that you’ll feel comfortable heading into your photoshoot, but that the photos turn out beautiful and capture the authentic memories of your relationship. Here are some tips that will help make sure you get the most out of your experience and prepare for your couples photo shoot.
First, ask your photographer all the questions you may have about the couples photo shoot. Ask what locations they suggest, what kind of clothes look best in photos, and any other questions you may have. This will help you feel more comfortable and give you ideas of what to plan for.
Pick the Right LocationTogether: It’s important to choose a location that you both feel comfortable in and one that will provide scenic backdrops for your photos. Consider what kind of vibe you want in your photos – earthy and casual, elegant and timeless, spunky and fun! Also take into account the type of clothing you’ll be wearing – if it’s a casual shoot then perhaps a beach would work better than an outdoor flower garden!
Think about what clothes each of you should wear for the shoot and plan two outfits each. (Check out this blog post for more tips on what to wear.) Choose something that’s comfortable and makes you feel confident – this will show through in the pictures! Avoid wearing anything that leaves a mark on your skin after you wear it. You’ll be moving a lot during your session so you want to be able to move freely. I recommend picking two different styles of outfits for different looks throughout the session – maybe it’s casual and formal, or maybe it’s bright colors and neutrals!
Plan Hair And Makeup: If desired, wearing a little bit more makeup than usual can help enhance certain features on camera while ensuring good coverage against harsh lighting – although don’t overdo it since too much can make it look cakey and unnatural on camera! Think light and natural. For hair styling, keep it simple but polished – avoid overly intricate styles as too many accessories may become distracting when taking photos. After all, you want to look like yourselves! If you’re considering hiring hair and makeup for your session, reach out to your photographer for references beforehand.
(Optional) Make A Pinterest Board: Have any specific or creative ideas that either of you would like to incorporate into the photoshoot? Creating a Pinterest board with ideas is helpful when planning these types of photoshoots so everyone involved knows exactly what kind of look and atmosphere is desired going into it. It can also be a great reference if there are specific poses you wanted to try during your photoshoot! Be sure to share the Pinterest board with your photographer with plenty of time leading up to the photoshoot, and understand it is for inspirational purposes and NOT a shot list! Trust your photographer – they are the expert!
Finally, Remember To Have Fun: Above all else, try to enjoy yourselves throughout the entire process! Remember why you decided to have couples photos taken in the first place whether it was simply just capturing memories or announcing an engagement. Whatever it may be, just keep in mind why you decided to book a session together and document these meaningful memories with one another.
