Reasons to Book a Winter Photo Shoot  – CA Bay Area Edition

I know what you’re thinking.

It’s cold outside! What if it rains? It’s always windy this time of year. What if the fog rolls in? I’ll just wait until the summer.

I hear you and I get it. However, winter is actually a really epic and beautiful time of year and should definitely not be dismissed for a photo session! There are actually lots of good reasons to book a winter photo shoot, especially in the Bay Area, and I’m here to outline them for you! First and foremost, in the winter months, you’re more likely to get:

Epic sunsets.

Yes! EPIC sunsets. Winter in the Bay Area means there are more clouds in the sky. Clouds are DRAMATIC! They bring the ooooohs and ahhhhhs to your images! I swear it’s as though the gods love to paint at sunset in the winter time because on a partly cloudy afternoon before sunset, you’ll get those fluffy clouds in front of epic pastel colors.

Earlier sunsets.

If you have small children that have early bedtimes and they are not morning kiddos, then a winter sunset photo session is for you. Especially if you schedule your session around winter solstice, you can expect a 3pm or earlier start time, be finished before dinner, and still have caught an epic sunset for your photo session. If that isn’t a triple win for a busy parent, I don’t know what is.

Comfy clothes.

Cozy knitted sweaters, bright scarves, sexy denim jeans…you just got yourself a perfect winter photo outfit! Winter sessions bring a different vibe and I am here for it! Also keep in mind that not every session in the winter is cold enough for thick sweaters. You’ll still get a lot of warm days so it’s good to plan out some layering options before your session.

Fewer people.

Believe it or not, Californians can be kind of wimpy when it comes to cold weather. 😀 Hahahah, I’m just teasing! (I’m from Minnesota, remember?) I will have you know that I also get cold in the California winters. But my main point here is, there are just fewer people hanging around outside in the winter months! So there will be less photobombing and more space for you and your family to enjoy the gorgeous environment!

Easier booking times.

As you can guess, the fall tends to be the busiest time of year for family photographers. So if you’re booking your winter photo session after December, there’s usually a lot more availability on their schedule, which means you can pick the date that you really want and not just the only date available.

I hope this article has you reconsidering the value and beauty of scheduling a winter photo shoot. Don’t dismiss winter just because it’s cold! Embrace it, dress for success, and I promise you’ll not only have an amazing time, but document beautiful and unique images at your winter photo session! Book your photo winter session with me today!

With love and gratitude,

Skyler
