For the past four years, Iโve been writing blog posts to highlight my goals and aspirations for the year ahead. While itโs a helpful practice, Iโve realized it only really works when you feel inspired to do it. Honestly, when I sat down to write my 2025 goals, I wasnโt entirely sure what they were yet. Everything I thought of either felt redundant from past years or just a little too personal to share online. ๐
Then I stumbled across a letter Iโd written to myself a year ago, meant to be opened this January. Honestly, I was a little nervous to read it – worried it might just remind me of all the things I didnโt accomplish in 2024, leaving me feeling deflated and depressed. But to my surprise, it was quite the opposite. ๐
Hereโs an excerpt from that letter:
โBefore you start focusing on all the shit that didnโt get done in 2024, letโs take a moment to thank ourselves and hold gratitude for all that we do have.
Are you still in love with Rainbow?
Are you still doing photography full time?
Is the fam healthy?
Did you spend quality time with your loved ones this past year?
If you said โyesโ to three or more of those, youโre doing great. Letโs focus more on whatโs really important, yeah?โ
After reflecting on that letter, I decided to try something new this year. Instead of setting goals for 2025, Iโd reflect on all the amazing things that happened in 2024. So, here it isโmy 2024 year in review! Both business and personal, these are the highlights that made 2024 unforgettable:
Spent nearly two months at home in Minnesota documenting families and love stories.
Iโve always dreamed of spending more time with my family back in the Midwest, and in 2024, I finally made it happen! I spent almost two months in Minnesota, soaking up quality time with my family. It was INCREDIBLE and brought me so much joy and ease. I canโt wait to keep this tradition going every summer!
Attended a photography retreat in Washington.
Hosted by Melissa Miller, this retreat was such an inspiring experience! Not only did I get to meet other talented photographers, but I also learned so much and worked in some of the most stunning locations in Washington state.
Nearly doubled my income and more than doubled my gross bookings!
I love reflecting on numbers at the end of the year. Itโs such a clear marker of growth. Comparing where I am now to where I started four years ago makes me so proud. I canโt wait to see how 2025 builds on this momentum!
Fully embraced being a wedding photographer.
Even though Iโve been photographing weddings for a while, 2024 was the year I officially started calling myself a โwedding photographer.โ I also booked significantly more weddings, which feels like such a big milestone!
I got engaged!!!
Still pinching myself over this one. ๐
Biked across Iowa in RAGBRAI.
Such an epic experience and a huge accomplishment!
Completed Moose Mountain Marathon with family members.
My dad does this every single year, and doing this alongside him and other loved ones makes it even more special.
Went to the Minnesota State Fairโtwice!
After nearly a decade of missing out, I made up for lost time with not one but two visits.
Spent quality time at the family cabin.
Unplugging and being with family at the cabin always fills my cup.
Traveled to the East Coast for two amazing weeks.
My partner and I spent the holidays with my future in-laws, and it was pure bliss.
Not to mention all the other fun moments including concerts, music festivals, ski weekends, and a relaxing anniversary getaway in Mendocino to celebrate five years with my partner.
Thanks for reading about my 2024 year in review! It truly was an amazing year, and if 2025 brings even half as much joy, Iโll consider myself one lucky gal. Cheers to whatever lies ahead! ๐
