I photographed Katie, Joe, Nora, and their pup – Truman – in their beautiful high rise apartment in San Francisco. I love in-home newborn sessions for SO MANY reasons! First of all, newborns are really fun to photograph because you get to focus on allllllll the little details. Additionally, the sessions have an authentic and relaxed flow to them. Parents are usually much more comfortable spending time in their own home and there’s usually a good 5 – 15 minutes of quiet family cuddle time where parents simply admire their little one. During that time I can quietly tip-toe around , get creative with new angles, and parents are less concerned about a camera in their face. That quiet freedom is pure bliss for me as a photographer. PLUS it’s really fun to see other people’s homes and get interior design inspiration.
Speaking of interior design inspiration, when I walked through their door, I literally asked if they were interior designers... Katie and Joe are Bay Area natives and their home could not have been more beautifully decorated. Every piece of art, furniture, and items for little baby Nora looked intentional and complemented each other. I left with so much inspiration for how I want my own space to look one day. (Interior design has never been my strong suit but something I long to become better at!)
Katie and Joe were so warm and inviting from the moment I walked through their door. Actually, Joe met me at the front of their apartment building to let me up the elevator. (The lobby, staircase, and elevator were all so cool looking that I snapped some pics on my cell phone before leaving at the end of their session.) I had such a lovely time capturing memories for their family. Nora was super calm the entire time. Just quiet, tender moments, near-silent whispers, and the sound of my camera shutter (if only I could silence it). I seriously fall in love with every in-home newborn session I do and am counting down the days until I have my next.
Katie and Joe, thank you for welcoming me into your beautiful home and trusting me to capture these precious memories for your family. Please enjoy scrolling through a handful of my favorites from this session. (It’s sooooo hard to choose, forgive me for the excess of images. 🙂
