In Home Maternity Session in Oakland, CA

This in home maternity session in Oakland, CA was so much fun to document! In recent years, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for these intimate sessions, and it’s always a privilege whenever I get the chance to do one. It was a truly special experience to document these precious moments for this lovely couple as they eagerly awaited the arrival of their baby boy. Choosing to hold the session in their own home added an extra layer of significance, allowing for more personal and intimate interactions in a space that holds deep meaning for the family.

Here’s a glimpse into what an in-home maternity session with me entails:

Prior to each session, I advise clients to walk through their home and prepare a few spaces in advance. This particular family wanted to capture moments in various areas around their home, including the nursery, as well as some outdoor shots in their yard, surrounded by nature. We started in the living room, where the natural sunlight created a beautiful backdrop, before moving to a guest bedroom where the lighting was too perfect to pass up. After capturing some individual shots of the mom-to-be, including a few with their adorable dog, we transitioned to the master bedroom for some sweet family portraits.

Following a quick outfit change, we ventured outside to document the family amidst the natural beauty of their property in Oakland, CA. Some of my favorite images from the session were taken here, as their yard offered a unique and lush backdrop. We then returned indoors to capture moments in the nursery, waiting until later in the session when the lighting was just right. To conclude, we had one final outfit change and captured some intimate moments in the living room, as well as on the front steps adorned with beautiful blooming flowers.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect throughout the session, with abundant light streaming through their windows, beautiful sunshine and warmth. Towards the end of their session, we had fun experimenting with direct light and shadows, which is always a creative challenge I enjoy.
